Paul’s Note — The Last Mile – and Why It Still Matters

As the year draws to a close, I find myself reflecting on the significant changes we’ve witnessed across global supply chains — from the rise of AI-driven automation to the renewed focus on sustainability and resilience. Yet, amid all this transformation, one constant continues to test our systems, our patience, and our creativity — the last mile.

The last mile is not merely a logistical endpoint. It is the moment of truth where every upstream decision — from planning to procurement — translates into real value for customers. It is also where technology meets human empathy. We can automate the journey, but it takes people to deliver promises.

As supply chains become smarter, let us not lose sight of that human connection — because at the end of every system and process, it is still trust — not technology — that completes the last mile.

SCA Insight

In 2025, we saw technology continue to reshape how organisations operate, with automation and artificial intelligence becoming almost inseparable from daily business processes. Yet, the most successful transformations were those that paired digital intelligence with human insight.

At Supply Chain Asia, we advocate for practical, hands-on digitalisation — helping professionals and companies design systems that enhance efficiency without losing context or purpose. The future of supply-chain management will not belong to those who automate the fastest, but to those who integrate technology most meaningfully.

As we move into 2026, our focus remains clear: to help professionals and organisations bridge the gap between digital ambition and practical execution — turning transformation into something tangible, measurable, and shared.
